Bird Guides |

|

Bird Guides are generally expert birders who offer a more
personalised service to the serious birder. They are familiar with the spots for rare and
endemic birds, and will go that extra mile to find a bird for you. Whilst most have their local
area with which they are particularly familiar, some are very accomplished twitchers
and can accompany you on a southern African safari that will visit all the birding
hot-spots. Depending on the time of year and areas visited, trip
lists of 400 to 600 species are possible. |

Leisure birding & wildlife safaris with the personal touch
Owner birders Patrick & Marie Louise Cardwell have established an
international reputation as eco-tour operators specializing in small group
guided tours or the specific needs of self-drive birders. We also run a
birder
friendly guesthouse above the penguin colony in the Western Cape and offer
tailored tours in search of local endemics throughout Southern Africa [fully
guided or site specific guides]. We use comfortable accommodation close to
prime birding localities. Pace and content depend on client wishes. Our Western
Cape to the Limpopo Bushveld trip covers a particularly diverse mix of habitats
to maximize opportunity making 400 plus sightings achievable. So whether you are
interested in the splendour of careening pelagic seabirds off Cape Point or the
magic of the African bush beyond Kruger Park to the Limpopo River.

KAROO BIRDING SAFARIS
|
|
Japie
Claassen of Karoo Safaris has spent his whole life in the Karoo. He
specializes in finding LBJs and has been birding in the area for more
than 20 years. Japie also has a good knowledge of the Karoo plants and
animals. The Karoo is a little-explored part of South Africa, and the
place to find a lot of the birding specials of the dry west. Karoo
Birding Safaris specializes in half day to twenty day tours in the remote areas
as well as other parts of SA in conjunction with other bird guides of
those areas. Japie welcomes novice to experienced birders and is
willing to share his knowledge of the Karoo with them.
Based on a
private nature reserve he can show you most of the Karoo endemics in
a short distance around Beaufort West like Cinnamon-breasted
Wabler, Short-toed Rock Thrush, Karoo Eremomela, African Rock Pipit
and Sclater's Lark. Accommodation can be
arranged.
